Our school, through the History teachers and the School Library team, marked the International Day in memory of the victims of the Holocaust with several initiatives. An exhibition about the Holocaust was on display in the schools, main hall, under the responsibility of the History teachers, and
another on Aristides de Sousa Mendes, a unique figure in national history who had a distinguished role in saving more than 30 thousand Jews from Nazi persecution. These initiatives were developed in a collaborative way, and the school library team, which is currently developing two Erasmus projects focused on reading literary works about the Holocaust, associated itself to the commemoration. An exhibition on human rights was also on display in the hall. During the day, several classes from different levels of education, accompanied by their respective HGP or history teachers, visited the exhibition and took photos with a poster associated with the online campaign Instagram#weremember. Year 6 students had the opportunity to read aloud excerpts from the book “The boys who fooled the Nazis” to their year 8 peers.
Also in the school library, the 9th A students, accompanied by the History teacher, watched the French film “A difficult class”; which tells us about the memories of the Holocaust and its impact on today in youth. A film that leads us to reflect on human rights, inclusion and the challenges of education.
A day in which indifference towards one of the greatest human tragedies – the Holocaust – did not exist in the EBS of Canelas.
